These commercials aired on Music Tv on February 27th, 1986 1. YM Magazine (With Gabrielle Carteris) two. Volkswagen GTI (Yay! Far more frightening singing in German…) 3. Coke (What) 4. Infant Ruth & Butterfinger (I like how easy and generic the Infant Ruth packaging is) 5. Station ID 6. Promo for “The Monkees” (They have been a massive influence on the Beatles) 7. Mountain Dew (Dewin’ It Country Cool!) 8. Tv Spot for “Hollywood Vice Squad” (Looks extraordinary LOL) 9. Station ID 10. Yamaha DX100 Synthesizer (Epic) 11. Sun Country Wine Cooler (With Richard Moll aka Bull from “Night Court”!) 12. American Sewing Association (What’s going on? I do not even…) 13. Hershey’s Kisses Snack Pack (With Rocky & Bullwinkle!) 14. Station ID 15. Promo for “Wife In The Rapidly Lane” (Ha, pun!) 16. Burger King (What a strange contest) 17. Gillete MicroTrac (Very first they compared shaving to bobsledding…now it’s rowing. Make up your thoughts!) 18. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups (Damn these driving bears! What was the DMV smoking when they made that terrible choice?) 19. Pepsi (I believed they only had Soda Machine Robots™ in Japan) 20. Station ID (I may possibly will need some treatment soon after watching this) This video is protected underneath fair use copyright law. Holy Batman reunion! Julie Newmar (Catwoman) in the Monkees commercial, Frank Gorshin (Riddler) in the Hollywood Vice Aquad commercial…. ummm… and that’s it.

  2. zappandroger says:

I’m pretty sure your comment on the Monkees is satire but the interwebz makes that hard to tell sometimes. Love these collections, thanks for posting. Sweet Nostalgia

  3. dgwaters says:

I was the biggest nerd growing up. Almost everyone I knew watched MTV in the 1980′s, everyone except ME. I SOOOO regret not watching MTV in the 80′s. Today the network has just gone to hell!

  4. 80sCommercialVault says:

    @Lesrevesdhiver MTV didn’t exist until 1981.

  5. Lesrevesdhiver says:

Mtv when first aired around 1979 kicked ass but it got shittier over time.

HERB! Never has such a marketing campaign took such a FAIL as this one did for Burger King.

  8. DanZero77 says:

@atomofish Yeah that certainly had some 80s style, and some cool animation!

  9. spxmet says:

  11. purplemutantas says:

@80sCommercialVault Weren’t the soda cans thicker back then? That could account for the larger size can having the same volume of liquid.

  12. SundownerDrifting says:

The Yamaha DX100! Now you can create the dreadful, plastic sounds of Starship’s “We Built This City” in the privacy of you own home!

And is that the great Sid Haig I spot in the Hollywood Vice Squad trailer?

  13. jwgreek8606 says:

was that Danny Dark voicing the spot for Hollywood Vice Squad?

  14. slydawg221 says:

2:44 to 3:08 is one of my all-time favorite 80′s commercials.

  15. phantasma18 says:

I am pretty sure that is Louise Robey (Friday the 13th the series) in the American Sewing Association commercial. What do you guys think?

  16. videodoe says:

Ahhhhh… poor Herb. He was the Burger King campaign that never quite took off… in fact I recall that he was a big flop.
Love the animated MTV IDs here! :-)

  17. riverofdreams1993 says:

this aired a couple of months before i was born.

YM mag ad w/ those awesome outfits FTW :D

  18. wymerhymer says:

1:35 You can see the prop stick in the shot for the Butterfinger commercial, not sure if anyone else noticed that.

  19. kari00ws6 says:

I think I used to get that ym magazine.

    6. Promo for “The Monkees” (They were a huge influence on the Beatles). Lol, Dumb&Dumber FTW

  20. sugarrrsmack says:

a lot of memories with these. I can’t believe that mtv had the monkees on! I used 2 watch the monkees all the time when I was little because I had a crush on davy jones. (lol) the monkees actually made a pretty cool/tripped movie call “head” that I seen not too long ago…

  21. level242 says:

I am so angry at MTV for not keeping their shit together. There was a time when you couldn’t be cooler then MTV. I don’t care who or what you were…you just couldn’t do it.Now it is nothing but tv shows with losers hookin’ up.

  22. Daeymien says:

So, yeah…the YM ad. “Sure I like guys, but sometimes I have questions.” Perhaps I’m a bit perverse, but that sounds a lot to me like she just came out during a magazine ad.

The ASA ad… “it’s fundamental!” No, it’s just plain mental. Thank you, drive through.

  23. holbrooke7 says:

    1:41 Holy shoulder pads!!

  24. m3trooper says:

@siamesemeg : that does remind me of The Stig from TOP GEAR on the keyboards! ha!

  25. m3trooper says:

Carrie Fisher (AKA Princess Leia) at 3:25 still looked really good! :-)
